Bayesian Motion Estimation for Temporally Recursive Noise Reduction in X-ray Fluoroscopy

چکیده
s This paper develops a Bayesian motion estimation algorithm for motioncompensated temporally recursive filtering of moving low-dose X-ray images (X-ray fluoroscopy). These images often exhibit a very low signalto-noise ratio. The described motion estimation algorithm is made robust against noise by spatial and temporal regularization. A priori expectations about the spatial and temporal smoothness of the motion vector field are expressed by a generalized Gauss-Markov random field. The advantage of using a generalized Gauss-Markov random field is that, apart from smoothness, it also captures motion edges without requiring an edge detection threshold. The costs of edges are controlled by a single parameter, by means of which the influence of the regularization can be tuned from a median-filter-like behaviour to a linear-filter-like one.

Robust Motion Vector Relaxation for X - RayFluoroscopy Using Generalized Gauss - MarkovRandom
We describe a Bayesian motion estimation algorithm which is part of a temporally recursive noise reduction lter for X-ray uo-roscopy images. Our algorithm draws its robustness against high quantum noise levels from a statistical regularization, where a priori expectations about the spatial and temporal smoothness of motion vector elds are modelled by generalized Gauss-Markov random elds. We sho...
متن کاملNoise Reduction and Image Enhancement Algorithms for Low-Dose X-Ray Fluoroscopy
After describing our quantum noise model, we rst develop a new motion-adaptive temporal lter based on a recursive structure. Compared to other motion-adaptive lters, our lter is much less prone to generate artefacts known as noise tails. We then describe spatial ltering techniques derived from the concept of spectral amplitude estimation. These lters work in the spectral domain, and can conveni...
متن کاملEnhancement of Low-Dosage Cine-angiographic Image Sequences using a Modified Expectation Maximization algorithm
Clinical x-ray image sequences acquired through fluoroscopy systems may be corrupted by quantum mottle — a Poisson-distributed, signal-dependent noise that arises with a controlled x-ray dosage reduction in an attempt to lower the exposure to the patient and the medical staff. In this paper, an approach to temporally filter this sequence is presented. It relies on a joint estimation of the sign...
متن کاملSurrogate-Driven Estimation of Respiratory Motion and Layers in X-Ray Fluoroscopy
Dense motion estimation in X-ray fluoroscopy is challenging due to low soft-tissue contrast and the transparent projection of 3-D information to 2-D. Motion layers have been introduced as an intermediate representation, but so far failed to generate plausible motions because their estimation is ill-posed. To attain plausible motions, we include prior information for each motion layer in the for...
متن کاملEvaluation of the Quality Control Program for Diagnostic Radiography and Fluoroscopy Devices in Syria during 2005-2013
Introduction: Extensive use of diagnostic radiology is the largest contributor to total population radiation doses. Thus, appropriate equipment and safe practice are necessary for good-quality images with optimal doses. This study aimed to perform quality control (QC) audit for radiography and fluoroscopy devices owned by private sector in Syria (2005-2013) to verify compliance of performance o...
